5 ways to slash the cost of your beauty routine

How to save money on beauty treatments

Many of us are looking to make savings at the moment. Don’t want to give up your favourite beauty treatments but want to save some cash? There are several ways to slash the cost of your hair and make-up routine. From free hair cuts to free samples, follow these top tricks to looking and feeling fabulous on a budget.

Free Fringe Trims

Many city centre salons offer free fringe trims to regular clients so be sure to ask if your hairdresser offers a similar service. Ask your hairdresser what their tidy-up policy is, it can be nominal for frequent clients. When it comes to salons, go for the most senior stylist you can afford if you’re having a re-style then visit a junior to save cash for trims. That way to the junior can follow the lines created by the senior stylist.

Follow Brands on Twitter

Brands and beauty e-tailers often post special discount codes and news of sales on their social media accounts first. Make sure you’re following all of your favourite make-up brands and online beauty stores on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to hear about any flash sales and online offers. Most brands also post weekly competitions and giveaways too.

Ask for Samples

While I’m not suggesting you prowl beauty counters begging for free stuff, many counters are happy to give samples to regular or interested customers. I always try samples of foundation before purchasing to ensure I don’t waste money on colours and formulas that don’t work for me. Brands such as Clinique, Estee Lauder and Bare Minerals all offer free colour match and sample services so don’t be afraid to ask.

Offer to Model

Offer to model at your local hair and beauty college to make big savings – many offer completely free or massively discounted services. While it may sound a little scary, students are always supervised by experienced tutors. Many local colleges offer student led treatments on everything from gel nails, threading, massage, facials and hair services. If you’re prepared for the appointment to take longer than usual and visit during college hours, you can make massive savings.

Try Daily Deal Sites

Whether you want to try a hot stone massage, hopi ear candles or a gel pedicure, you might be surprised at some of the discounts that are to be had on daily deal sites such as Groupon, Living Social, Wowcher or Wahanda. Make sure you’re signed up to newsletters to avoid missing out. Expect savings on beauty treatments and spa days of anywhere up to 80% – just be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully before purchasing as some deals need to be taken on certain days or may have other restrictions.
