Mikey Clifford has hit back at 5 Seconds Of Summer being nominated for NME’s Worst Band in perhaps the best way EVER.
The nineteen-year-old saw the pretentious dig made by the music magazine, and decided to play them at their own game – urging fans to vote for his band to win.
Mikey wrote: “HOLY SH*T WE GOT NOMINATED FOR WORST BAND AT THE NME AWARDS. pls pls pls vote.
“I’m not even being sarcastic it would be so incredible to win.”
Hmm, we bet that’s not *quite* the response that NME and its fellow meanies were hoping for.
The magazine have an annual tradition where they attempt to mock mainstream music by putting very successful and very lovely artists up for categories such as ‘Worst Band’ and ‘villain Of The Year’.
For example, utter gentleman with the biggest heart on the planet, Harry Styles, has won the title of NME’s villain for the past two years, and is nominated again this time around – going head to head with none other than babe of the industry, Taylor Swift.
Alongside 5SOS in their prestigious ‘Worst Band’ category is, of course, global superstars One Direction, Bastille (how are they going to be an optimist about this?), punk-rock legends Blink-182, The 1975, and U2.
Although we’re sure that they took it just as lightly as those good-natured Aussie lads… After all, having legions of fans and bestselling records probably soften the blow of one little mag and a few music snobs thinking that you’re a bit rubbish.
Good luck on winning, 5SOS, and please go to the ceremony and give the best acceptance speech of all time if you do!
