Avril Lavigne‘s husband Chad Kroger has spoken out about her terrifying battle with Lyme Disease for the first time since the news was announced last week.
The debilitating illness left Avril bedridden for five months, with the 30-year-old admitting that at one point she thought she was ‘dying’.
Her Nickelback husband has now opened up about her condition, telling KIIS FM’s australian radio show Kyle & Jackie O he was ‘very thankful’ that everything had now been revealed.
The 40-year-old admitted: “I’m like OK the wife has come out and said this and now I don’t have to keep hiding.
“With everyone going ‘What’s wrong with your wife, what’s wrong with your wife’ and me just going, ‘ah she’s gonna be fine’. I’m like ‘okay, I can talk about this now’.”
Chad also revealed that his 30-year-old wife asked him: “Can you do me a favour? When you do all your interviews, can you not talk about it.”
He added that “things are looking up and definitely getting better” for Avril, which is obviously fantastic news.
Here’s hoping the lovely lady can make a full recovery soon!
Avril herself has also been talking about the scary illness, revealing that she’s not going to let it stop her from persuing what she really wants to do.
Taking the positives from the situation and explaining how she’s using the illness as motivation, she told Billboard: “I’ve always wanted to make a Christmas album, but I’ve never had the time.
“But now it’s like, ‘You know what, just do it!’ Because that’s something I really want to do, so that’s going to be next for me. I’m doing things at my speed and never being too overwhelmed, like the way I have in the past.
“I really want to enjoy everything, because life is good. And even though this circumstance is unfortunate, I think there are a lot of positives with it. I’m definitely choosing to view it that way.”
Good on you, Avril! We like your thinking.
She also added that she want to use her experience to educate others about Lyme Disease.
She said: “I feel like I have a responsibility — I can’t just sit on my ass and do nothing.
“I need to talk about Lyme disease, because it’s real, it’s out there, it was a simple bug bite and it could happen to anybody.
“People need to know about it, because it’s not talked about that much and a lot of the information that’s out there is inaccurate.”
We’re sending our love to Avril and hoping that she’s feeling 100% herself soon!
