Erm, so, mass congratulations to Mr. Benedict Cumberbatch, who is set to receive a CBE this Saturday at the Queen’s birthday honours.
Champers all round, yeah?
The award is just one rank below a knighthood and is being given to Benedict for his services to drama, which has caused quite a stir considering he is only 38 years old, with one source ranting to The Sun: “Benedict is clearly very talented but a CBE is normally for those coming towards his careers.
“It’s not as though he’s a veteran actor, such as John Hurt, who didn’t get the CBE until he was 64.”
And it seems as though some Twitter users agree that it is a little bit controversial:
Benedict Cumberbatch CBE. He’s not even 40. What a joke.

Even though the honours system is completely archaic, I don’t get why Benedict Cumberbatch deserves a CBE so early in his career

I’m sorry but Benedict Cumberbatch hasn’t done anything to deserve a CBE

In case you’re not down with the process of getting a CBE, private and government nominations are made to a selection committee, who then decide who will be the lucky recipient.
It is thought that the star would have known about the news for a few weeks now, with it obviously being assumed that he has accepted the prestigious title.
That’s an Oscar nom, a CBE, and a baby via his new wife, Sophie hunter, all in one year – we don’t know about you, but we reckon that 2015 has served Benedict well.
Ignore the negative Nellies, Benedict – congratulations!
