Bob Geldof Admits That He ‘Blames Himself’ For Daughter Peaches’ Death

It would be a tragic time for any parent.

But Bob Geldof is racked with guilt after admitting that he feels responsible for the untimely death of his 25-year-old daughter earlier this year.

Peaches died from a heroin overdose earlier this year, eerily reminiscent of her mother Paula Yates’, passing in 1996, and Bob has revealed that he now feels as though he “failed as a father”.

He said: “She was super bright, too bright. She knew what life was supposed to be and God bless her, she tried very hard to get there and she didn’t make it.

“I’m not just blaming the newspapers, of course not. You blame yourself. You’re the father who’s responsible and clearly failed.”

Ooft, don’t be so hard on yourself Bob – you’ll drive yourself mad.

The 63-year-old went on to share that he “did more than talk about” Peaches’ problems with her, but still feels as though he could have done more.

He told ITV news: “For anybody watching, who has a dead kid and you’re a parent, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go over, you go over, what could you have done.”

Peaches had two sons, 17-month-old Phaedra and two-year-old Astala, with her husband Thomas Cohen, and it seems as though Bob still can’t get his head around the fact that his own daughter is gone.

After remaining relatively tight-lipped about the tragedy over the past six months, Bob spilled: “The ability to try and understand or to try to come to terms with the immensity of the grief is there but it takes a long while for it to filter through.

“I’m not there with Peaches yet. It was all too soon. It was all too sudden. It was unexpected.”

He has previously spoken out to say that the pain of her death was “intolerable” and that he thinks it will be ‘healthier’ if Peaches’ sons do not have any memory of their mother.

Bob said: “My Mum died when I was six or seven, I have no memory of her but as you say, the world has moved on. I am shown photos, I really have no interest in that much because I have no memory of her.”

“So I don’t really remember her and I’m not sure that… they are so small the little chaps that… I’m not sure that they’ll have this craving to remember their Mum, and I think that is Healthy.”
