Simon Cowell has long had the title of ‘Mr Nasty’ thanks to his ruthless judging style, but none of his past talent show critiques even come close to the cruel prank he played on Amanda Holden.
Putting his best pranking foot forward during a game of ‘Call or Delete’ on Radio 1′s Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw, SiCo rung Amanda and told her he was replacing her with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for some of Britain’s Got Talent‘s live shows.
SO CRUEL, but also SO AMAZING.
This is DEFINITELY the best call or delete prank ever in the history of, er, call or delete.
Showing off his mischievous side, the 55-year-old decided to ring his good friend Amanda, 44, and tell her he’d had an idea on how to shake up this year’s BGT.
He explained how he wanted Chezza on the judging panel for two out of the seven live shows, because she’s “younger” and knows more about the singers and other musical acts.
The lovely Amanda didn’t take Simon ‘Meanypants’ Cowell’s news fantastically well, telling him she wasn’t *really* okay with it, but could sort of understand if it was for the “good of the show,” as he’d explained.
What a ruddy good sport, eh?
Despite being obviously pretty flustered by the sudden news, she did quite enjoy his suggestion that Jeremy Clarkson could replace David Walliams on the panel for the show’s semi-final.
Errrr, anyone else imagining how THAT would go down?
Simon couldn’t resist one more horrible twist though, suggesting that Amanda could actually sit at home and WRITE NOTES about what she thought of the show during the nights Chez was on, and feed them back to the team afterwards.
Not surprisingly, his suggest was met with anger and a firm NO from the actress.
After winding her up for long enough, the music mogul eventually broke the news that he’d been winding her up all along, resulting in Amanda telling him she ‘hated’ him and announcing that she needed a gin to get over the stress.
We don’t blame you, Amanda!
Later in the day, during a Q&A for the show’s launch, she admitted she actually felt some annoyance towards Chezza at the time.
She said: “I have to say I felt really bitter about Cheryl. And she knew nothing about it.”
According to The Mirror, she later admitted: “I got off the phone and hit the mini-bar. So sorry, I’m not drunk. In reality, he wouldn’t have the guts to phone me to tell me that, he’d get someone else to do it.
“I’m not joking, I still feel like part of it’s real, I feel like it’s some kind of nightmare and I kind of hate Cheryl Cole a bit, I’m like, ‘Cheryl, don’t do that to me this late on.”
We’re not sure how Amanda managed to not cry during Simon’s cruel prank, because we’re pretty sure we would’ve been screaming, crying and generally throwing a massive tantrum if we were her!
Well handled, Amanda – and make sure you get Simon back just as good!
