Britain’s Got Talent: Collabro ‘Act Two’ Album Review

As Britain’s Got Talent fever gets well and truly underway ahead of tonight’s grand final it only seemed right that we checked in with what last year’s winners, Collabro, were up to, and as it happens, they’re back with a brand spankin’ new album.

In case you’re not entirely up to speed with the comings and goings of BGT-land, Collabro are a five-piece boy band who are pretty ruddy awesome at covering those massive musical theatre hits – including the super difficult ones from the likes of Les Miserables and The Phantom Of The Opera.

There is literally no end to their talent and stunning vocal ability.

After winning last year’s series, and consequently performing at the Royal Variety Show, the band went on to take the world by storm with their debut album, Stars, and deservedly nabbed that prestigious Number One spot.

Michael Auger, Richard Hadfield, Jamie Lambert, Matthew Pagan and Thomas J Redgrave are now gearing up for the release of their second album, aptly named ‘Act Two’, and we were lucky enough to have a sneaky listen to it ahead of tomorrow’s worldwide release and can confirm that it is absolutely brill.

Sticking to exactly what we know and love them for, Collabro have covered ten more of our fave songs, and were sure to keep it fresh with a few surprises mixed into the usual West End and Broadway tracks.

Alongside brilliant renditions of Les Mis’ ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ and the iconic ‘Memory’ from Cats, Collabro have given their own unique twist to some classic pop songs – including Jason Mraz’s ‘I Won’t Give Up’ and, our personal favourite, THE ACTUAL ‘FRIENDS’ THEME TUNE.

We legit didn’t realise just how much we needed a musical theatre version of The Rembrandts’ ‘I’ll Be There For You’ until we heard it on this album, what a bloomin’ brilliant idea, eh?

Either way, the bottom line with Collabro is that it doesn’t matter how well you know the songs that they are singing, or how much you like or dislike musical theatre, their flawless and pitch perfect vocals are enough to keep even the most picky of listeners happy, and their absolutely spot-on choice of tracks is just the added cherry on top.

All in all, it is safe to say that Collabro are back with a vengeance, and if listening to this album doesn’t leave you wanting to hop on the next train to the West End then you are probably doing it wrong.

5/5 Collabro, it’s good to have you back.
