Last year’s Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro have had one heck of an incredible year haven’t they? From performing in front of the Royals to having one of the biggest selling albums of the year AND a sellout tour, they’re basically living the dream.
Oh, and there’s also the small matter of a certain recently signed £1million US record deal. Y’know, no big deal.
So, with all that mind (and with their second album ‘Act Two’ coming out on June 1st), we grabbed a chinwag with the lovely Matt Pagan about meeting Kate and Wills at the Royal Variety performance, and about how down to earth One Direction and Ed Sheeran really are.
We always knew they were wonderful young men, eh?
Speaking exclusive to Yahoo Celebrity, he admitted meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge was: “Incredible. What do you say?! You know, ‘Oh my god, hi’!
“The only thing we could think of was, William came past first and was like ‘really enjoyed your performance. What’s next for Collabro?’ We said we’d like to take Collabro international and he said ‘with voices like that, you could go global’.
“Obviously for us, coming from him that was amazing.
“Kate was a bit further away, taking her time talking to some of the acts, and she came round to us and the only thing that was said really was, Michael just decided to say ‘Oh can I just say you look stunning’.
“So she hesitated a little bit and then she just sort of went ‘well you look fantastic’. Michael’s adamant that it was said to him but it wasn’t. It was said to everybody. That’s his big thing.”
He also spoke about meeting some other legends in the form of six of our favourite musical men at the Royal Variety, revealing: “We were in the dressing room with Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles, we went into the dressing room to meet them and everything and Ed loved our shiny shoes!
“It was just a general chat. We were asking One Direction questions really, like ‘how’s everything been’ and obviously you needn’t really ask! And then they were asking us how we were doing and everything, it was just a really nice general chat.
“But I couldn’t believe, obviously with the success that both acts have had, Ed and One Direction, how they can still be so down to earth, because the bigger you get, I guess the more pressure’s on people as well. For them to be as nice as they were was incredible.
“I mean Harry Styles, everybody in the world knows who Harry Styles is and he still comes up to you, shakes your hand and introduces himself as ‘Harry’. Like ‘Hi, I’m Harry, nice to meet you’.”
We ruddy KNEW it. 1D and Eddy are just too darn glorious to be anything less than nice and down to earth. Hip hip, HOORAY.
Matt also explained that while they were nervous for recording the first album, they were less so for ‘Act Two’ because they had more time to demo songs – all with the fans’ input.
“We put on Twitter and Facebook what would you like to hear on the next abum and they came up with hundreds and hundreds of idea.
“We took all of them into consideration, sit down, picked out favourites out of the ones they’d chosen, went in, demoed them and that’s the album. It was a very enjoyable experience.”
We’ve actually had a sneaky listen to their next offering, and it’s safe to say that it’s absolutely amazing. ERRR-mazing.
So amazing, that Matt summed it up in these four words: “Emotional. Creative. Unique. Blended. Available-June-1st.”
What more could you really want, eh?
‘Act Two’ is available to pre-order on iTunes right now.
