As well as looking absolutely gorgeous on the cover of Vanity Fair, Caitlyn Jenner opened up about her 23-year-long marriage to Kris Jenner, saying she felt “mistreated” during their time together.
The 65-year-old former Olympian, who also spoke about her relationships with Chrystie Crownover and Linda Thompson, claimed that Kris was “controlling” during their marriage, which ended in 2013.
In an honest and brave interview, Caitlyn explained the reason they split, saying “twenty per cent was gender and 80 per cent was the way I was treated.”
“The first 15 years I felt she needed me more because I was the breadwinner,” she added.
“Then really around the show, when that hit and she was running the whole show and getting credit for it and she had her own money, she didn’t need me as much from that standpoint. The relationship was different.
“I think in a lot of ways she became less tolerant of me. Then I’d get upset and the whole relationship kind of fizzled.
“A lot of times she wasn’t very nice. People would see how I got mistreated. She controlled the money, all that kind of stuff.”
Kris had the chance to have her own say, revealing: “He was married to me and he wasn’t who he wanted to be so he was miserable. All I was doing was working very hard for my family so that we could all have a wonderful future, and he was p**sed off.
“At the end of my relationship with Bruce he definitely had a lot of social anxiety. That was one of the reasons we were in a struggle at the end.”
The 59-year-old said their relationship ended abruptly when Caitlyn “just decided, ‘I’m done’,” adding that now she knows everything (as such), she believes the way her former husband approached their eventual divorce felt like “the most passive-aggressive thing I think I’ve ever experienced.”
Kris continued on to say that she knew Caitlyn had taken hormones in the early ’80s, but insists she never knew there was a “gender issue.”
She asked rhetorically: “Why would you want to be married and have kids if this is what you wanted since you were a little boy? Why would you not explain this all to me?”
Caitlyn also admitted that Kris had seen her wearing women’s clothing when she was Bruce, adding that the two had made a rule that Bruce could cross-dress ONLY when he was travelling alone and away from the family’s home.
However, Kris denies this, saying that somebody had just “mentioned that at one point in his life he liked to dress up.”
Caitlyn has received incredible support since making her debut on the cover of Vanity Fair, and even broke a record by gaining 1million Twitter followers on her new account in just four hours.
Tweeting for the first time as @Caitlyn_Jenner, she said: “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.“
We can’t wait either! <3
