Celebrity Big Brother 2015: Nick Clegg DEFENDS Katie Price In Row Over Tax-Funded Driver For Son Harvey

You know when we said we didn’t know who’d wade into Katie Price‘s Celebrity Big Brother 2015-started tax row next, after her mum stepped in to defend her? Well, we had some guesses, but we NEVER saw Nick Clegg and his support coming.

That sounds weird. Anyway, the Deputy Prime Minister has now spoken out to give his opinion on Katie’s use of a tax-funded driver to get disabled son Harvey to school, and it turns out he supports her decision.

Who knew?

The 48-year-old Deputy Prime Minister has spoken out in support of the universal payments scheme to help fun disabled children, and, according to the Daily Telegraph, said those who are disabled need to be treated with “compassion.”

Hear, hear.

Speaking on his LBC show, he also said: “I’m not going to start saying on the basis of what we have heard about Katie Price’s child that we should throw out the principle of local authorities providing help to the parents of disabled children.”

He then then compared the local authority’s decision to pay for Harvey to travel to school with nurse to the NHS, in that it is provided for EVERYONE, from “paupers to multi-millionaires.”

He added: “I just so happen to think the help we give in society to disabled children, which most people understand, is it’s better to provide universally.

“Of course you get cases like this Katie Price but I would be pretty reluctant to say that on the basis of this individual case we throw out treating all children with disabilities with compassion where we can.”

We’d love to say this whole thing ends up, but somehow we think we might be wrong.

One person who is very grateful for Nick’s words is Katie’s brother Danny, who thanked both the Deputy Prime Minister and Louise Mensch on Twitter for their support on the issue.

He also thanked everyone else who’s sent messages of support to the family, writing: “I just want to say thank you for all the overwhelming support on an issue that really shouldn’t have required any justification in the first place.”

LET THIS BE THE END.

Well, we can dream, right?
