Cheryl Cole Plans To Set Up A Record Label To Rival Simon Cowell’s?

Watch out, Si – you might have a fight on your hands.

Cheryl Cole/ Cheryl Fernandez-Versini/ Just Plain Cheryl, is reportedly planning to launch her own record label in the not so distant future.

We bet Simon Cowell is quaking in his boots.

The 31-year-old singer is currently a mentor and judge on the latest season of X Factor after taking a three year break from the show back in 2011, and it looks as though this mentoring malarkey has inspired Chezza to set up a firm to help new talent.

But will she be taking just anybody on?

Well, that answers that then.

The currently unnamed label is apparently due to be launched next year and is Cheryl’s chance to try her hand at nurturing young talent as she provides a platform for hot new artists to kickstart their careers.

A music industry source told the Mirror: “It’s a natural next step for Cheryl, having coached contestants for years on The X Factor.

“She knows what it takes to succeed in the industry from her experience as a performer – both as a solo artist and as a group from her years in Girls Aloud.

“Cheryl definitely knows her stuff. The artists she’ll be interested in won’t just be pop acts, it will cross over all genres. She loves music and is really excited about being able to springboard new talent.

“At the moment she’s just finished recording her new album, once Only Human has been released towards the end of the year she will focus all her attention on the label.

“There’s interest from all the big labels but Cheryl may just go it alone.”

Cheryl’s X Factor boss has previously spoken out about his desire to give the singer her very own label at his Sony record company and would no doubt be gutted if she opted to embark on this new venture by herself.

We can’t IMAGINE why she would want to cut loose from Simon…

Simon said back in March: “I’ve said to Cheryl if she wants a label at Sony I would do it in a heartbeat because she is a really good judge of talent.

“Cheryl got Cher Lloyd into the final – no one else would have done that.”

Good point, Si – and who would have ever thought that Cher Lloyd would reach the superstardom levels of stateside fame that she’s achieved over the past couple of years?

Cheryl’s certainly got a knack for talent spotting, we’ll give her that!
