In the wake of a year of record sales, Yahoo Lifestyle puts Biscoff spread, dubbed "crack in a jar", to the test.
Picture the scene:
You wake up in a luxurious hotel, having treated yourself to a rare weekend away.
Basking in the early morning sunshine, you and the hubby decide to call down for some room service.
Having lazily shovelled a few spoonfuls of scrambled eggs into your mouths, you move on to a rich Americano, which comes with a couple of delicious, caramel flavoured Belgian biscuits on the side.
You savour every bite of the biscuit, as it's almost better than your caffeine fix.
Well, now you can forget plumping for a fancy hotel room and forgo the coffee altogether, because Lotus Bakeries, who make the little Biscoff treats, have gone and done something bloomin' marvellous.
They've turned the biscuits into a spreadable toast-topper.
And it's taking supermarkets by storm, with sales up 529 per cent this year.
The lovely people over at Lotus Bakeries sent us some jars, which comes in both smooth and crunchy varieties, so that we could see what all the fuss was about.
There were a range of reactions, but here was our general consensus:
Yes or No
Sophie decided it was pretty much the best thing she'd ever tasted and is currently planning on getting rid of everything else in her condiment cupboard, to make way for Biscoff.
Isabel, who doesn't usually "do" spreads, felt like this might be the one to change her mind.
Bread, No Bread
Chris, whose first reaction was almost obscene, changed his mind when faced with the option of having it on bread. He's a spooning it out of the jar kind of guy.
Natasha thought that filling up on bread was probably a good thing, as it might prevent you from ingesting 50,795,283* calories in one go.
Amy, who didn't like it on its own, changed her mind when she had it spread a bit more thinly on her morning toast.
Crunchy or Smooth
A fairly even split.
Phil and Tom fancied themselves a bit of crunch, but there were quite a few smooth fans too.
But people tended to prefer one or the other and then stick with it.
We applied one final test….we left the jars out for people to take home.
And it seems there was a clear winner (the yellow lid is the crunchy version).
