Dermot O’Leary QUITS The X Factor After Eight Years, Will Present Top Gear Instead?

It’s being reported that Dermot O’Leary is leaving his hosting duties on The X Factor after eight glorious years of dancing and just generally lighting up our Saturday evenings.

After it was revealed that the bosses were giving the show a major shake-up, it’s now known that Dermot won’t be returning to our Saturday nights and could potentially be hosting Top Gear instead.

DON’T GO, DERMOT. PLEASE.

In a statement, the 41-year-old said: “Good afternoon. After eight wonderful years on @TheXFactor it’s time for me to move on.

“I’d like to thank ITV, Simon, The X Factor family and particularly the viewers, all of whom have been a big part of my life for so long.

“I’d like to wish the team all the best for the future, especially whoever takes over from me.

“You’re about to be the conductor on the most brilliant, runaway train in showbiz. Good luck you’ll love it.”

However, it’s also being reported by The Sun that Dermot was actually AXED from the show, rather than deciding to make the move himself.

A senior X Factor insider allegedly told them: “Dermot’s gone. He won’t be presenter of The X Factor this year.

“It was Simon’s decision – he was bored of Dermot’s presenting style and knew the show needed a big change of front person in order for the show to beat Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings.”

Earlier this month, Dermot had said: “We normally sit down February/March but Simon wants to change stuff. So I need to see what changes he is going to make before a) I know if he wants me and b) whether I’m suitable for those changes.

“If he [Simon] turns around and says, ‘Half your gig is a voiceover’, then I will have to think about it. If he lets me do my thing then of course I would do it.”

However, it might not all be bad news for Dermot, as there are rumours that he could be taking over Top Gear presenting duties after Jeremy Clarkson was axed.

The BBC have declined to comment on the matter.

We’ll miss you, Dermot, but fingers crossed we’ll see you back on our screens ASAP!
