If Ed Sheeran wanted a crash course in driving, he definitely got it when he took to the Top Gear track for his first EVER drive around – before driving right off the track and onto the grass!
Considering our first ever driving lesson consisted of driving at 2MPH and struggling to stay on the left-hand side of the road (true story), we reckon it wasn’t a bad effort from our fave fiery haired singer.
Taking his seat in the show’s Reasonably Priced Car for the new series, Eddy explored the track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey as part of the opening episode.
And when you’re exploring the track, why not explore what it feels like to drive on grass too, right?!
Besides his venture onto softer surfaces, the 23-year-old looked pretty chuffed with his efforts, especially since he doesn’t ACTUALLY own a driving licence.
Considering most first driving lessons (in fact, ALL first driving lessons) take place somewhere that’s not a slick racing track designed for professional drivers, we’re gonna cut him some slack.
Oh, and it was peeing it down with rain too. Just to add more difficulty for the poor guy.
First lesson: How to use windscreen wipers.
Teddy took to Twitter before the big day, asking fans to wish him luck before he tried to make it around the BBC show’s private track in one piece.
Ed was seen getting a few pieces of advice from The Stig, the infamous driver on the show, before heading out in the Vauxhall Astra, helmet on head, to try and get a decent lap time.
The singer spoke about his driving fears to MailOnline in October last year, explaining: “I still can’t drive. But if I did, I’d like a Mini. It’s kind of understated.
“sports cars scare the s*** out of me because they go so fast.”
Good job you weren’t given a sports car for this competition, eh?
Nice effort for a first drive, Ed. Just stay clear of main roads and, er, other cars for now, yeah?
