Ed Sheeran Slammed For Using Homophobic Slurs In Freestyle Rap Battle Video From 2011

Ed Sheeran has sparked outrage among his fans after pre-fame footage of him using homophobic slurs in a freestyle rap battle was found on YouTube.

Not cool, Ed, not cool at all.

The video has since been removed from the Internet by Ed’s record label,Warner Music Group, but it has been reported that the five-minute clip shows our fave ginger-haired popstar trading insults in controversial rap verses against fellow artist Devlin.

Said to be shot at the end of 2011, Ed is seen to be standing in the street and holding a pint of beer as he makes crude comments about oral sex before using homophobic slurs, rapping: “Yo, I freestyle to the f*ggoty man.

“I go on the bus and I sleep for a day, then I come back and they’re like, Ed you look like this gay.

“These guys are safe, they’re not gay mans”.

OH, EDWARD – We are literally at a loss for words.

Another verse from the sing-song is said to include: “I eat ham but I’m not a Muslim, but I freestyle because I’m not a Christian either.”

Hmm, not quite ‘When my legs don’t work like they used to before and I can’t sweep you off of your feet’ then, but at least we know that his songwriting skills have massively improved, eh?

Needless to say, the 24-year-old star’s choice of words has left many unimpressed, especially as Ed is such a vocal supporter of gay rights and was even seen to tweet: “To the people picketing outside the arena. Keep your homophobic views to yourself, it’s 2013″ when he supported bezzie mate Taylor Swift in the US two years ago.

Gay rights charity Stonewall have expressed their disdain at the footage, with a spokesperson telling The Mirror: “Homophobic language is a real issue in Britain, and is endemic in our schools.

“It’s important to think about the words you choose to use, as what some people see as ‘banter’ can have a negative and lasting effect.”

A spokesperson for Ed defended the singer’s 2011 antics, saying: “Ed was sending up rappers who make homophobic remarks.

“He is clearly not homophobic.”
