Man of the moment Hozier has been hot on her heels all week, but it seems that Ellie Goulding has a rather novel way of dealing with her chart competition.
While she might still be sitting pretty at number one with ‘Love Me Like You Do’, the superstar has decided to do her own version of the Irish singer’s number two hit ‘Take Me To Church.’
After TOTAL chart domination then, Ellie?
Ellie’s version of the track, which she’s released via Soundcloud, is all kinds of amazing, giving the bluesy rock song a synthy, ethereal edge.
Sorry, Hozier, but we think your thunder has been well and truly stolen.
While the epic tune might have stalled at number two in the UK charts (kept off the top spot again this week by Ellie’s Fifty Shades single), it has spent a staggering seven weeks inside the top five and has peaked at number one in 12 countries.
Now that’s what we call a breakthrough track.
TMTC was originally released in September 2013, but gained serious traction at the end of last year when it peaked at number two in the US.
Annie Lennox’s immense cover at the Grammy Awards probably didn’t hurt either… when you’ve got a musical legend performing your song in front of the world, you know you’ve done something right.
But whose version is the best? We love you, Ells, but we’ve still got the original on repeat.
