We have a confession to make. We think we’re totally and utterly in love with Ellie Goulding‘s new hairdo and we’re probably going to spend the next four hours debating whether we’re brave enough to copy it.
SPOILER ALERT: We’re not.
The gorgeous singer debuted her new hairstyle at the opening of Balmain’s first London store last night, after she’d thrown shade at fired X Factor New Zealand judge Natalia Kills earlier in the day.
Although she did quickly decide to delete the sassiest shade moment, sadly.
Ellie stepped out in a stunning black and gold sequinned gown to attend the event at Annabel’s exclusive private members’ club in Mayfair, after being invited by the dinner’s host Olivier Rousteing.
Her beaut gown and her general flawlessness wasn’t the only thing people were talking about though, as the 28-year-old was also flaunting a newly lobbed-off hairdo.
Welcome to the bob club (which boasts Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba as members), Ellie. Here’s your complimentary, er, hairbrush. Yep.
The ‘Love Me Like You Do’ singer was keen to show off her new look to her followers, sharing a lovely black and white shot of her new look and fancy gown on MazSight.
She captioned the photo: “Getting ready for the beautiful Balmain dinner <3 @Balmain HAI HAIR CUT.”
It’s definitely different from the Ellie look we’ve come to know and love, but we reckon her decision to change up her usual long locks was a very good one indeed.
We’re definitely looking like the heart-eye emoji right now.
Earlier in the day, Ellie had weighed in to the discussion about Natalia Kills and Willy Moon’s verbal attack on X Factor New Zealand’s contestant Joe Irvine – an attack which saw them be swiftly fired from the judging panel.
Natalia had launched into a tirade of abuse following Irvine’s rendition of Cry Me A River on Saturday night, claiming that he was copying her husband’s style – by wearing a suit. OH THE HUMANITY.
She ranted: ” We have a doppelgänger in our midst. I, as an artist who respects creative integrity and intellectual property, am disgusted at how much you have copied my husband. From the hair, to the suit… do you not have any value or respect for originality?”
“You’re a laughing stock! It’s cheesy, it’s disgusting. I personally found it absolutely artistically atrocious. I am embarrassed to be sitting here in your presence having to even dignify you with an answer of my opinion. You make me sick. I’m ashamed to be here.”
Willy then added that the contestant looked like he was going to murder everyone and stitch their skin to his face.
After both Ed Sheeran and Lorde lended their support to Joe, Ellie also spoke out on Twitter, writing: “Can’t stop myself from commenting on NZ X factor situation because I can’t stop thinking about how mean it was. Thank goodness they’re gone.”
She then got even sassier, tweeting and deleted: “You sort of have to be, you know, vaguely relevant to have your style stolen just saying.”
ALL THE AWARDS TO YOU, ELLIE.
Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to get back to obsessing over her new hair.
