Sir Elton John has apologised after launching an expletive-laden rant at a female concert steward on Sunday night, calling the poor woman “Hitler”.
The 68-year-old musician was said to have lost his temper during his performance at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester at the weekend, shocking the 16,000-strong audience.
Shouting the stewards, who were apparently asking members of the audience not to block other people’s view, Elton reportedly said: “These people have come here to hear music, so if they want to put their hands in the air, let them.”
He went on to add that Gloucester was “not china” (ever helpful), and then picked out one steward in particular, later identified as Maria, and told her: “You put a uniform on and think you’re Hitler – well you’re not.”
As if that wasn’t enough, fans then caught the steward understandably leaving the stadium in tears.
However, it is understood that the father-of-two felt bad almost instantly, telling the crowd soon after: “No-one should ever talk to a lady like that.
“It’s so frustrating, if people want to wave their hands, don’t tell them to stop. It’s a musical event.
“I do apologise. Whoever told the stewards to be restritcting that, that’s their f***ing fault, not hers. So I apologise to her and I would be willing to apologise to her face.”
Maria then joined Elton on stage and the pair appeared to put their differences behind them.
Y’see, Elton? ‘Sorry’ isn’t the hardest word after all.
