Sounds like someone’s a bit jealous of this year’s X Factor hopefuls.
Speaking exclusively with Yahoo Celebrity UK at Birmingham’s Fusion Festival, Union J’s Josh Cuthbert revealed he’d been watching the latest series of X Factor and wished they’d had this year’s judging panel when the group were on the show.
When asked what he thought of this year’s judges Josh said, “I think they’re amazing!”
He added, “I loved our judges but I wish we could have had those four when we did the show because I think we would have developed more as artists.”
Erm, Josh are you saying that the one thing the judges are really there to do for you could have gone better? Yowch.
The group shot to stardom when they came fourth in Series 9 of X Factor while mentored by Louis Walsh along with a panel of Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa Contostavlos.
While Louis has stuck around, this year’s judging panel sees the return of acid tongued series creator Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and Mel B. It’s worth pointing out that as Louis has the Groups again this year he would STILL be their mentor had Union J joined for this series.
We think really they just want to meet Chezza.
It sounds like the boys are taking their development as artists into their own hands for their next album – with rumours of them heading into folk and country styles!
Josh said: “We’re changing direction because we’ve got to be different than every other band out there.”
Does that mean the boys want to move away from the sound of their debut? Josh said: “The first album was very poppy, and it was almost – not dated, but I think it just wasn’t the right time for that kind of music. We looked at what other bands were doing and just tried to fit in with the mould.”
He added: “With this next single we’re heading down a different route. You’ll see it’s very different from Tonight (We Live Forever).”
Personally we can’t wait to hear Union J’s version of country (mainly because we want to see if they’ll all come out wearing cowboy hats because who doesn’t want to see that?).
Union J performed Sunday at Fusion Festival alongside Pixie Lott, Luke Friend, The Wanted and headliner Jessie J.
