Harry Styles Avoids Slamming Taylor Swift, Thinks Her Songs About Him Are ‘Really Good’

Yesterday was a pretty good day to be a Directioner.

Not only did our fave boys win a whole load of EMAs and perform on The X Factor (okay, that was pre-recorded but shhh), they also hosted their very own One Direction livestream.

And it was glorious.

Being interviewed by their long-term pal and music video director, Ben Winston, the boys chatted about their new album, their old albums, and everything inbetween, including a very awkward moment with regard to a certain Miss. Taylor Swift.

Addressing Harry Styles, who had an incredibly brief yet incredibly publicized romance with the American star back in December 2012, Ben asked how it felt having his ex write so many songs about him.

Ever-polite Harry swerved the opportunity to slam TayTay for exposing their two month relationship through the medium of song, retorting: “We always say that we write from personal experience, I think everyone does.

“It’d be hypocritical of us to be like ‘Oh, you can’t write songs.’”

Well played, Harry, well played.

The 20-year-old even went on to compliment his ex, debunking every ‘bitter split’ whisper that has been surrounding the duo ever since their sudden split, saying: “And she’s really good, so they’re good songs.

“So I’m lucky in that sense.”

To be fair, if you come out of a relationship with Taylor Swift and all that she has to sing about you is ‘You got a James Dean day dream look in your eye’ then you’ve done pretty well really.

Taylor previously revealed in her interview with Rolling Stone Magazine that there were no less than four songs about Harry on her new album, 1989, but on closer inspection we reckon there are at least five.

As well as sounding very familiar, Rolling Stone strongly implied that ‘I Wish You Would’, which is about a guy who buys a house nearby to her and ‘All You Had To Do Was Stay’ about an ex who doesn’t want to commit, are about our Harry.

Then, there is the even less subtle track called ‘Style’, about a boy with slicked back hair and a white T-Shirt, which she tells the magazine she should have called ‘I’m Not Even Sorry’ because it is so bloomin’ obvious.

Moving on, there is Wonderland, which includes a line about a green-eyed boy with a cheshire cat smile and is definitely nothing to do with green-eyed, Cheshire-born Harry.

Finally, there is her released single  ‘Out Of The Woods’, which Taylor said was inspired by  a “fragile” relationship and the “anxiety” she felt within it.

Speaking to Good Morning America, Tay spilled: “This song is about the fragility and kind of breakable nature of some relationships.

“This was a relationship where I was kind of living day to day wondering where it was going, if it was gonna go anywhere, if it was gonna end the next day.

“It’s a relationship where you kind of never feel like you’re standing on solid ground. And that kind of a feeling brings on excitement, but also extreme anxiety, and kind of a frantic feeling of wondering.”

So she basically tried to make dating Harry Styes sound like one massive panic attack, but to be honest we’re still pretty willing to give it a go.

Just FYI, Hazza.

Despite admitting that it is impossible to not write about your own personal experiences, it doesn’t sound like there are any Taylor-inspired tracks on One Direction’s new album, FOUR.

In fact, the juciest fact that the boys shared in the livestream is that Niall Horan wrote a love song about Liam Payne’s girfriend, Sophia Smith… Odd?

Explaining the situation, Liam revealed: “There is a song about Sophia and I didnt write it, which is a bit weird.

“I wrote the melody for it. It’s called ‘Illusion’, me and Julian, who we write songs with, were talking, we just went outside for a chat and I was telling him about what happened with me.

“After I left, he went back and phoned me up like ‘Hi, we wrote the whole song about Sophia’, and I was like… Okay, this is strange.

“I was with Sophia when I first heard it and she loved it.”

Well, that’s good to know.

And although it’s a bit strange, it’s quite sweet to know that your boyfriend gushes about you so much that his bezzies are able to write a love song on his behalf.
