When Gemma Collins spectacularly (metaphorically) stuck her middle finger up to I’m A Celebrity and told them where they could stick their porridge after just three days, we assumed she’d just had enough of sporting a new mud-made fake tan and/or had just remembered she had a vajazzle appointment to get to.
However, GC has now opened up on the real reason she told the jungle to shaht ahhp, and it’s actually quite sad.
And nope, it’s nothing to do with getting her fluorescent poo back to normal.
Talking to The Sun, the 33-year-old revealed that her very, very short time in the jungle was all but tainted by THAT huge bust-up with her ex Alex Moss just hours before she jetted off to the jungle.
GC was apparently very tearful as she recalled how she struggled to cope with the aftermath of the fight which, when mixed with the trials and tribulations of jungle life, just didn’t sit well with the TOWIE star.
She revealed: “The jungle was harder than I ever expected, I am just not as strong as I thought I was.
“A personal and very serious incident that happened to me hours before I flew to Australia affected me in camp far more than I could have imagined and I just couldn’t carry on in there.
“It was my decision to go in regardless and I never expected not to complete my time in there. I am so, so sorry that I have let people down, but I had to make the decision to walk away.”
Okay, so we think she perhaps should’ve stuck it out for a week or so, but since we have no idea what it’s really like down there, we can’t really judge can we?
Gemma and Alex had been involved in a fight back in Essex before the show, with GC apparently calling cops after claiming Alex had assaulted her. He reportedly handed himself in to police a few days later.
If you are as avid a viewer as us, you probably would’ve noticed GC’s particular struggle with the lack of food in the jungle. Not that she mentioned it or anything. Ahem.
She spoke about that side of jungle life to the paper, saying: “I was very hungry in there. But when Craig Charles spoke about starving children it put it into perspective for me.”
Pretty good attitude really.
Sadly, whilst we may have enjoyed sharing GC’s hilarious experience with her, it’s one that’s going to haunt her for a long time.
Talking to viewers as she left the jungle, she explained: “I came into the jungle because I thought it was going to be amazing but not one part of the experience was amazing.
“Walking into the jungle I wanted to walk straight back out again. Everything was hellish. I will never, ever, ever come to Australia again. I’ve caused so much trauma to myself.”
Err, unlucky Australia. Although, you DO know that all of Oz isn’t just one giant jungle, right?
She added: “I don’t actually think I’ll be able to work or move again until next year.” She also said that “playing up to the cameras” made her feel like a “puppet” and has left her pretty traumatised.
Who knew three days could have such an effect?
DON’T PANIC THOUGH. She won’t be giving up TV forever, adding: “I love working in TV but in the future I’ll make sure I pick projects that I can cope with.
“Hopefully I’ll look back in a couple of weeks and laugh hysterically but at the minute it’s all been too much.”
We hope so. Sounds like she needs another trip to Marbs to get over this experience.
Perhaps she can fulfil her Bear Grylls dreams over there.
