Some women might have a problem with America seeing their husband nude, but not Jennifer Garner. On the Oct. 8 episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” the host brought up Ben Affleck’s nude scene in “Gone Girl” and suggested that Affleck’s body was to blame for the movie’s success.
“I think you’re probably onto something,” Garner said. “What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome.’ I just try to consider myself a charitable person, and I wanted to give back. You give me so much. I wanted to give something back to all of you.”
The actress was promoting her own movies, “Men, Women And Children” and “Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” but much of the discussion revolved around her husband’s film. DeGeneres asked if the couple discussed the “Gone Girl” nude scene before it happened.
“It wasn’t a discussion, it was like, ‘Hey, at work today [director David] Fincher talked me into coming out of the shower,’” Garner explained. “And I was like, ‘Oh, cool. Well, I hope he had on a wide lens.’”
Affleck has also joked around about the full- frontal nude scene. “The penis is in there!” Affleck told MTV. “It’s an IMAX penis. You’ve got to pay 15 bucks to see it.”
He said that the scene didn’t feel forced and it matched the european vibe that Fincher wanted for “Gone Girl.” “It’s got to be like in Europe, they just don’t give a s— about any of that stuff,” Affleck explained. “And they just play real people. So that was the spirit of the thing … so there is some brief—very brief—nudity in the movie.”
