They’ve been left completely devastated.
So it’s no surprise that Joan Rivers‘ family are reportedly considering a lawsuit against the hospital that ‘botched’ her throat procedure, leaving her in a coma.
Can’t say we blame them!
As fears mount that the fashion Police star, 81, could be left in a ‘wheelchair’ or ‘in a vegetative state’, a source has claimed that her daughter, Melissa, is considering legal proceedings.
Clearly looking to hold someone accountable for the fact that a routine procedure lead to a cardiac and respiratory arrest, an insider told the Daily News:
“Shock and upset is turning to anger, and they are looking for someone to blame. An 81-year-old should not have that procedure as an outpatient.
“Melissa is apparently totally hysterical and is at a loss for what to do.”
The source added that Joan is in the process of being brought out of her medically-induced coma, but the real fear is how her brain has been damaged.
“The waking-up process has begun and will take until Tuesday,” explained the insider.
“There is real concern that the part of the brain that controls motor skills may have been compromised, leaving her as either a vegetable or in a wheelchair.”
The update comes as Joan’s good pal Jay Redack opened up about her relaxed attitude towards the op, which took place at a private clinic in New York.
He told The New York Post: “She said she was just going in for a little procedure in the morning,
that was it.
“What’s ironic is at dinner [Wednesday night], we were talking about who goes first. I’ve known Joan so damn long.
“I said, ‘Here’s what I’ll leave you if I go first. What’ll you leave me?’ She said, ‘I’ll think about it’.”
The 81-year-old is now said to be comfortable after the scare, with her daughter Melissa saying: “I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family.
“We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”
The hospital also released a very brief statement, which read: “Her family want to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support, we will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”
Joan’s famous pals have taken to Twitter to give their love and support to the star, including Fashion Police co-star Kelly Osbourne, who wrote:
“4 the first time in years I got down on my knees & prayed tonight! I encourage U 2 do the same.”
Get well soon, Joan!
