According to a statement on her official website, Joni Mitchell is NOT in a coma and is actually “alert” with her “full senses.”
It was originally reported by TMZ that, according to new conservatopship documents, she was unresponsive and in a coma.
However, in a statement approved by Joni’s close friend Leslie Morris, this is NOT the case.
The statement posted to JoniMitchell.com, reads: “Contrary to rumors circulating on the Internet today, Joni is not in a coma.
“Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert, and she has her full senses. A full recovery is expected.
“The document obtained by a certain media outlet simply gives her longtime friend Leslie Morris the authority – in the absence of 24-hour doctor care – to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital.
“As we all know, Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight. Please continue to keep Joni in your thoughts.”
The legendary singer, who is famous for hits such as ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, was hospitalised in March after being found unconscious at her LA home.
A statement on her official website at the time said that she regained consciousness on the way to intensive care, and was said to be ‘awake’ and ‘in good spirits’.
An initial statement on the 71-year-old’s site read: “Joni has been hospitalized. We are awaiting official word on her condition and will post it here as soon as we know.”
An update was then posted, which read: “Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital.
“She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them.
“Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way.”
