Judy Finnigan Defends Convicted Rapist Ched Evans On Loose Women Debut, Twitter Goes CRAZY

Oh, Judy.

Who would have ever thought that kindly Judy Finnigan of ‘Richard and Judy’ fame would be at the centre of a Twitter storm after making pretty indefensible comments about rape.

We seriously don’t know how she is going to dig herself out of this massive hole.

The 66-year-old made her debut on Loose Women earlier today and said that Ched Evans, a pro footballer who was convicted of raping a teenager, didn’t commit a “violent” crime.

Judy said: “He’s served his time. The rape and I am not, please, by any means minimising any kind of rape – but the rape was not violent. He didn’t cause any bodily harm to the person.”

Even if that was true (it’s not – all rape causes bodily harm), what about the emotional harm?

The poor victim was left so terrified she had to relocate within the UK.

23-year-old Chet was sentenced to five years in 2012, and looks set to be released next week after serving just half of his sentence.

A petition calling for the footballer to not be given his job back at Sheffield United has since recieved over 100,000 signatures, but Judy feels that this isn’t appropriate.

Adding to her already controversial comments, she says: “It was unpleasant, in a hotel room, I believe, and she was – she had far too much to drink. And you know, that is reprehensible, but he has been convicted and he has served his time.

“Now when he comes out, what are we supposed to do? Just actually refuse to let him do his job? Again, even though he has already been punished?”

Ched was prosecuted when the jury ruled that the victim was far too drunk to consent to sex, with the girl saying that she had no memory of the incident.

Understandably, Twitter have freaked out at Judy’s comments:

Eek, we have a feeling that Judy might not be able to get out of this one.
