Kanye West Apologises After Being ‘Grossly Over-Censored’ During Billboard Music Awards Performance

If you managed to catch any of Kanye West‘s Billboard Music Awards performance, you’ll know that it was basically a five minute game of ‘Where’s Kanye?’, as he got lost in the smoke and censoring machine.

While many just found the whole thing hilarious (after they’d realised they hadn’t just sat on the mute button by accident), Kanye is actually pretty angry about it all, saying he was ‘grossly over-censored’ and ‘seriously misinterpreted’.

It’s alright, mate. Audio Muted is pretty catchy, anyway.

Viewers were quick to make approximately 101 jokes about the 37-year-old’s performance of ‘All Day’ and ‘Black Skinhead’, which was censored for an awkward 15 seconds at times due to ‘inappropriate’ language.

If that wasn’t enough, it was a bit of a struggle to actually SEE Kanye during his set, thanks to the fact that he was pretty much performing in the inside of a smoke machine.

Well, kind of.

ANYWAY, he’s now released a statement via his publicist, which reads: “Kanye West was grossly over-censored at the Billboard Music Awards.

“Non-profane lyrics such as ‘with my leather black jeans on’ were muted for over 30 second intervals. As a result, his voice and performance were seriously misrepresented.”

“It is ridiculous that in 2015, unwarranted censorship is something that artists still have to fight against,” he adds.

“Although West was clearly set up to face elements beyond his control during the live broadcast, he would like to apologize to the television audience who were unable to enjoy the performance the way he envisioned.”

ABC and show producer Dick Clark Productions both have no comment on West’s remarks.

Crikey. Angry Kanye is angry and it’s probably best if we actually let him finish.

His performance had already got off to an awkward start, with Kendall and Kylie Jenner being booed as they tried to introduce their brother-in-law on stage.

Not cool, obviously.

Maybe you should sing some sort of nursery rhyme next time, Kanye? That’s one way to avoid any sort of censoring at least.
