Hold on to your hats, cats and other things because it’s been confirmed that Kanye West will be headlining Glastonbury 2015.
Yep, come June, the ‘All Day’ rapper will top the bill on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night for what we can only assume will be a ruddy legendary set.
It was previously rumoured that the 37-year-old WOULD make some sort of appearance at the festival, but organisers only confirmed the exciting news on Twitter last night.
The official Glasto account wrote: “We’re very excited to announce that @kanyewest will headline the Saturday night at Glastonbury 2015.”
Emily Eavis also shared just how delighted she is at the announcment, tweeting: “We are thrilled to let you know we have the one and only Kanye West headlining Saturday night on the Pyramid stage!”
A statement on the official Glastonbury website read: “We’re very excited to reveal that Kanye West will headline the Saturday night of this year’s Glastonbury Festival. This will be the rapper’s first appearance at the Festival.”
And of course, Kanye himself resorted back to his favourite shouty capital letters to share his excitement with followers, writing: “EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE IM HEADLINING PYRAMID STAGE SATURDAY NIGHT @GLASTOFEST THIS YEAR.”
However, this tweet has now mysteriously disappeared.
Yeezus. Maybe someone told him about the wellies and tent situation.
The rapper’s BFF Jay-Z became the first hip-hop Glasto headliner back in 2008, a decision that caused controversy after Noel Gallagher claimed it was “wrong” to have such an artist at the top of the bill.
However, Jay took it all in his stride, responding by opening his set with a performance of Oasis’ iconic “Wonderwall.”
Fingers crossed Kanye will crack out a similarly surprising performance. Perhaps a cheeky One Direction number?
Just a suggestion.
Kanye joins Foo Fighters on the line-up, who have already been confirmed to be headlining on Friday night.
Dave Grohl confirmed the news when the band picked up the award for Best International Band at the NME Awards last month.
In a video message, he revealed: “We’re very thankful and very happy – sorry we couldn’t make it tonight, but we will be seeing you over the summer at some big outdoor festival that nobody knows we’re playing. It’s Glastonbury.
“So we’ll see you at Glastonbury – thanks a lot everybody.”
Emily Eavis, the festival’s co-organiser, added: “They are one of the greatest live bands on the planet, they’re just incredible.
“I mean Dave Grohl just ignites the field and will do something phenomenal. You so rely on those incredible live bands to take you somewhere else.”
AGH. SO. EXCITED. Is it too early to start wearing in our wellies?
