Kate Middleton’s younger brother, James Middleton, was just 13 years old when the Duchess of Cambridge started dating the Duke of Cambridge. At a young age, he was already going through so much, but he was unable to tell anyone because their whole family was focused on Middleton and Prince William.

As he got older, James continued to struggle with his mental health. But he was finally able to tell his family what he’s going through. During a recent interview, he said that his older sisters and parents immediately figured out a way to help him out.

James revealed that the Duchess of Cambridge went to therapy with him after he suffered from a major depressive episode. His parents and sister, Pippa Middleton, also joined him during his sessions. However, they didn’t go together as an entire family.

Middleton’s brother, who recently got engaged, said that he was unable to eat, sleep, and do anything while he was struggling with his depression.

“I was just like, ‘What am I meant to do?’ I was better off in my own company, so I didn’t have the additional worry of someone thinking, ‘What’s wrong with him?’  I removed myself from everything,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

James eventually checked himself into a private psychiatric hospital, where he received cognitive behavioral therapy. But even while he was receiving treatment, he was still having suicidal thoughts.

At present, James has also figured out ways how to improve his mental health. He exercises regularly through running, cycling, skiing, and listening to audiobooks.

Meanwhile, Middleton and her husband, Prince William, are also advocates for mental health. The Duke of Cambridge previously launched the Royal Foundation with the help of Prince Harry to help those who are suffering from mental health problems.

But after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle separated from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Middleton opted to take on the foundation by themselves.
