Kate Middleton is expected to channel Princess Diana in Pakistan tour with Prince William.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to make an official visit to Pakistan this week. Royal experts are expecting Middleton to channel her late mother-in-law on the royal tour.
“I think we will probably see at least one traditional shalwar kameez—the top and loose trousers look — from Kate on this trip,” Susan Kelly, editor and founder of fashion blog WhatKateWore.com told People.
“Diana wore that look multiple times in Pakistan and I think she has on occasion looked to Diana for inspiration, while being careful not to copy her.”
Aside from that, Middleton is also expected to wear the same shade Princess Diana wore when she visited the country.
“I think we’ll see the color green incorporated [to represent the green flag of Pakistan], and I think we may see jasmine, the national flower, used somehow in her clothing choices,” Kelly added.
Aside from following Princess Diana’s fashion choices, Middleton is expected to wear pieces by Pakistani designers during the trip. This won’t be surprising because the duchess has always made it a point to wear clothing from local designers during her previous tour.
Prince William and Middleton’s trip to Pakistan is deemed to be the most complex tour for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Royal editor Russell Myers said in the “Pod Save the Queen” that this trip is more challenging that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s South Africa tour. He also added that this trip will be very significant and historic in terms of the pressure that comes with it and the security aspect.
Meanwhile, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that the tour could be canceled if the officials are not satisfied with the security arrangement. Sources said that visiting the country is quite risky.
Prince William and Middleton were criticized for not including Karachi, the country’s largest and most cosmopolitan city on their tour. However, netizens defended the royal couple with one saying that there’s no point visiting a deserted place. Another said that if the royal couple would visit Karachi, they would be limited to its small posh side, so there’s not point doing so.
Prince William and Middleton will kick off their Pakistan tour on Oct. 14. The couple will stay there for a few days and are due to return to London on Oct. 18.
