Seven years after the horrific acid attack, Katie Piper was hoping to return to hospital for her last throat operation for a while.
Sadly, she later revealed that it wasn’t her day, and she WILL have to go back into hospital next week for further surgery.
Sending you loads of love, Katie!
The brave 31-year-old mum needs surgery on her throat to repair damage caused when she swallowed some acid in the awful 2008 attack, which was organised by her ex-boyfriend.
A source told MailOnline that Katie has now had over 60 surgeries, as fibrous thick scar tissue forms in her oesophagus, closing it and making swallowing difficult.
Sharing the beautiful photo above of herself wearing a fetching hospital gown on MazSight before yesterday’s opertation, she wrote: “Back down to theatre for me this morning- praying today may be the last operation on my throat for a while. Nearly there :).”
Followers were quick to flood the comment sections with fab messages of support, to which Katie replied: “Thanks for all the lovely msgs- I’m a big believer in the power of prayer and good will- so thanks for all the happy thoughts and vibes x”
Sadly, however, she later took to Twitter to reveal that the surgery hadn’t quite gone as planned, and she’ll be seeing the hospital again sooner than she’d hoped.
Keeping things positive and admitting that eating ice cream was definitely an upside of the nasty surgery, she wrote: “It wasn’t my day today- require further surgery next week, C’est la vie!”
What an inspiration.
Katie was forced to miss her daughter Belle’s first birthday in March, after complications arose from her routine operation to have some scar tissue in her throat removed.
She explained: “I went in for a routine operation to remove scar tissue from my attack but there were complications. I was discharged but started to deteriorate.
“It’s been very painful and I’ve lost a stone in fifteen days so I had to come in and be monitored.
“A stone is a lot and I look like a skeleton but hope to be back home and back to normal ASAP – all fun and games.”
Taking to Twitter, the mum-of-one thanked her fans for their ongoing support, writing: “Thanks for all your kind messages, I am back in hospital unfortunately, but getting good treatment so probably the best place to be right now.
“Just want to try and find a way forward to get back to normal health.”
Hopefully next week’s surgery will all go to plan, and she won’t have to return to the hospital for a while.
Sending you loads of love and get well soon wishes, Katie!
