Katy Perry has hinted at contemplating suicide following her divorce from Russell Brand in 2011.
The 30-year-old singer’s relationship with the 39-year-old comedian came to an end after just one year of marriage – causing her to spiral into a ‘darker place’.
Speaking to Rove McManus about her depression during an interview on australian show The Project, Katy admitted:”It was sad and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully.”
Katy’s album track ‘By The Grace Of God’ was inspired by this traumatic time in her life – garnering a lot of attention last year after it was unveiled.
Speaking of the track, Katy said: “It is the first song that I wrote coming to make this record, when I was in a different place, I was in a darker place.
“Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotion.”
Previously talking to Billboard last year about the song, Katy explained that it portrayed just how tough things had got for her.
“That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, ‘Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?’ All the songs are real-life moments,” she said.
“I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. “I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs.”
We’re just glad that she’s bounced back to the Katy we all know and love.
