We’re already bursting at the seams with excitement at the prospect of Katy Perry‘s Super Bowl Halftime performance this weekend, and with the promise of a very special surprise female guest, we’re practically crawling up the walls in anticipation.
Having already announced that she’ll be joined by Lenny Kravitz during her sure-to-be epic performance, Katy has teased us all again by revealing she’s got an “old school female singer” lined-up too.
ARGH WHO COULD IT BE?! Britney? Janet Jackson? Rihanna? CHER?! The rumoured answer is after this photo, just to warn ya.
The answer? MISSY ELLIOTT, apparently. YES, ACTUAL MISSY ELLIOTT.
For the love of everything, PLEASE let this be true. We’ll do anything to make this happen.
Okay, so since Katy herself is keeping properly tight-lipped about the whole thing, we obviously can’t confirm or deny that Missy will definitely be doing her thang on the stage, but a source has apparently blabbed all about her appearance to Associated Press. Naughty.
Katy, 30, only gave a very cryptic hint as to who’ll be joining her when she spoke at the NFL press conference, revealing: “I wanted to bring someone back — a throwback of sorts. [Someone] that definitely needed some more shine.
“All I can say is that it will be a real female fun night. It’s a bit old school, yes. But when I think when this person enters the stage and when you hear the first ring of the chord, I think jaws will drop and faces will melt.”
Well Missy definitely fits that description, so we’re keeping our fingers, toes, eyes and everything in-between crossed that this isn’t all a big hoax.
Just when you thought you couldn’t be any more excited to see what the singer will bring to her big performance, she’s also gone and revealed that there will be “lions and sharks” present too.
Scary and amazing, all at once.
She told the press conference that she’ll bring a “flaming hot” show, adding: “I think I’m the only person to ever do a half time show who brings a lion and sharks to the show.
“It’s going to be wild out there. I’m creating three or four different worlds. My entrance and exit are spectacular, the costumes are great, the music, I have a lot of songs to cover so there will be some medley of sorts.
“It’s a larger than life show and, there will be costumes, I have 12-and-a-half minutes so I am going to take the opportunity to show a few looks, this is exciting. It is going to be a very colourful performance.”
But don’t worry, she’s pretty convinced she won’t be doing a Janet Jackson on stage (you know what we’re talking about), having “done lots of fittings,” and describing how her “motivation and objective” is to get people “talking about the music the next day. I take a lot of pride in my music.”
She also explained: “I think I have my eye on the prize, to make sure my performance is a few things. I am going to play on my strengths and humour. My songs are anthemic, and I want 115 million people smiling.
“I’m very excited about this performance, we are all going to have a wonderful, fun, not so serious time. When I look at other performances, Beyonce – who flicks her hair like nobody else can, she’s sassy, and Madonna. I want to do a bit of both.”
We’re going to hear her Roar on Sunday by the sounds of things.
SORRY. We’re just super excited, alright? This is going to be EPIC.
