Katy Perry promised that her Super Bowl Half-time show would be “flaming hot,” and flaming ruddy hot it was – and that’s just in her first costume!
Yep, KP’s performance was everything we were hoping for and so, SO much more, as she went through four costume changes AND was joined by legends Lenny Kravitz and actual Missy Elliott on stage, along with some singing sharks.
We had a dream like this once. Weird.
Even before her performance there was a buzz in the air, with her ex-hubby Russell Brand even taking to Twitter to wish the singer good luck on stage. Cute.
Katy, 30, arrived on stage via a massive metallic lion (or tiger, we’re not sure), as you do, rocking a gorgeous flame dress and belting out ‘Roar’, before being joined by some dancing chess pieces for ‘Dark Horse.’
Then, Katy and her cute super-high ponytail were joined by actual Lenny Kravitz and his guitar for an electic performance of ‘I Kissed A Girl’, which not only involved Lenny looking cooler than a bathtub full of ice cubes, but also Katy doing a Miley Cyrus and sorta twerking on the legendary rock star.
Just less risqué this time. And with added flames, of course.
Well, it IS the Super Bowl after all!
The singer then had a quick costume change for ‘Teenage Dream’, where she basically looked like a gorgeous beach ball surrounded by dancing palm trees, beach balls and surfboards. AND SHARKS, EVERYONE. Proper, real (ish, but not really) sharks.
Yep, definitely had this dream before. Or was it a nightmare?
Katy was joined by some retro-bikini-clad dancers on her mini island for ‘californian Girls’, before another quick costume change and the moment we’d all been waiting for – MISSY RUDDY ELLIOTT.
The singer changed into an over-sized, embellished hoodie to join Missy on stage, where they smashed performances of ‘Get Ur Freak On’, ‘work It’ and ‘Lose Control’.
We’re not sure how else to describe their performance other than just amazing, really. The 90s in us is happier than a kid at Christmas, and that’s all we can say.
Katy ended her set in a stunning, sparkly, silver dress for an emotional performance of ‘Firework’, where she was raised into the air on a teeny, tiny platform whilst singing.
How she didn’t wee herself in fear we’ll never know.
She looked like a total dream in those beautiful sparkly shoes as real fireworks were let off around her, and to be honest, we couldn’t think of a better way to end her incredible set.
All of this in just 12 minutes (yes, TWELVE) and not a single wardrobe walfunction or a Taylor Swift diss in sight.
That deserves a round of applause.
Katy totally nailed her half-time show, and if you need us today, we’ll probably be busy watching this over and over again.
And then a few more times after that. WELL DONE, KATY. Well bloomin’ done.
