Lauren Platt has revealed that she is focusing all her attention on her career – not her love life.
The 17-year-old X Factor finalist ended her relationship with Liam Baker last year during the live show stages of the competition after a story emerged that she was romantically linked to One Direction’s Niall Horan.
Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Celebrity, Lauren admitted that seeing the stories about her love life in the press was strange but she didn’t regret her decision to end the relationship.
“It was obviously very tough but I’m quite headstrong,” she explained. “I know where I want to be and what I had to focus on was X Factor at the time.
“This is my career, this is the rest of my life. I’ll have time for boyfriends later on.”
During her time on the X Factor, Lauren was criticised for not showing as much emotion as her fellow contestants. The singer is, however, adamant that she is in fact a very happy person.
She said: “I rarely ever cry. I’m just quite a strong person.
“I think I’ve always been a happy person and I’ve always looked on the bright side of everything.
“While everyone else was crying in VTs, I literally couldn’t. I didn’t know how. I think there was one VT where I shed a tear and everyone was like ‘oh my god! She’s crying!’”
Lauren also hit back at critics of the show who suggest that contestants cheat their way to success while other artists have to work harder to get signed.
“A lot of people that you speak to when you are off the show kind of imply that going on X Factor is a way of cheating to get into the industry, she said.
“To be honest, the way I see it is that we all just took a chance and took a fast track I guess. I see no harm in it.”
Lauren is currently gearing up for rehearsals ahead of the X Factor UK tour next week – and can’t wait to see the old gang back together.
“I’m very excited! I think it’s going to be strange, I think it is going to be a lot more different this time around, she told us.
“There is going to be a lot more freedom and to be honest, we’re not fighting for our lives anymore! We’re just singing. I think it’s going to be a lot more relaxed.”
The X Factor tour kicks off on February 13 in Belfast. Tickets are available here.
