She’s one of The X Factor’s major success stories.
But despite being one of the biggest pop stars in the world, Leona Lewis has revealed the secret depression that she’s been struggling with over the last year.
The singer penned an open letter to fans on Friday, speaking out about the ‘roller-coaster’ of emotions that she’s felt since splitting from Simon Cowell‘s label, Syco.
Clearly wanting to let her legion of fans in on what she’s been going through, the 29-year-old posted a snap of a lengthy, handwritten note to her MazSight page.
The X Factor winner, who’s now signed to Universal’s Island Records, admitted that she found leaving her former mentor’s label one of the toughest decisions of her life.
She wrote: “It has been quite the rollercoaster year. The emotions I’ve felt have been more powerful, in both a positive and negative way, than anytime I’ve ever felt in my life.
“At some points I felt extremely depressed and other times experienced amazing highs, but it got to a place where the downs were outweighing the ups. So I’m writing this letter for anyone who has ever felt the same way.”
She wrote: “Someone told me that worrying is always like standing under an umbrella in case it rains. You never get to stand in the sun. I worry so much. I worry about friends and family, about being far away most of the time and missing out on life with them.”
Leona added: “I worry about the future, work, how I look, the images of horror on the news, the way humans treat humans, animals, the environment.”
The star revealed that she would sometimes ‘spiral to a dark place’ and used ‘meditation’ to help her recover.
The Bleeding Love singer added that she finally made the decision to leave Syco after a dispute over her fifth album.
Leona claims that the label threatened to make it look like she was dropped, which would damage her reputation.
She wrote: “I was threatened with the fact that if I left it would come out that I would be dropped. That cut deep, but this time nothing could stop me from walking away.”
The former Brit School pupil went on to admit that she was in a good place, and thanked her fans for sticking with her.
And her fans were DEFINITELY impressed with Leona’s honesty, with one commenting: “Omg, i think this is the first time she’s connected with the fans this deep. We love you Lee ❤️ honestly one of the bravest , honest woman in the industry.”
We’re all behind you, Leona!
