Today’s winner for bizarre story of the day goes to reports that Leonardo DiCaprio got involved in a bidding war with paris Hilton over a Chanel handbag for his mum in Cannes.
Yes, really. Leonardo actually ended up winning the handbag at the charity auction, which was part of the Heart Fund Generous People Dinner Gala, placing down a mere €10,000 ($11,146) for the luxury item.
Errrr, so our bid of £5, a packet of crisps and an old train ticket probably would’ve lost then? Ugh, life is so unfair.
The 40-year-old actor bought the swanky blue Neoprene flap bag with embroided flowers for his mumma Irmelin Indenbirken, which is just plain adorable, really. N’aww.
However, before he could do that, he had to fight off Paris, 34, as well as two other bidders at the Carlton Hotel, according to New York Post’s Page Six .
One of which we would hope was bidding on our behalf. WE CAN DREAM, ALRIGHT?
It’s no wonder everyone was so keen to get a hold of it either, with the MailOnline noting that Chanel doesn’t even list the bag’s price on their website because it’s THAT valuable.
We’ll take two, please.
A source also told People.com that Paris still had fun at the bash despite her loss, staying for the whole event, enjoying a performance by Mos Def, and feasting on a fancy dinner.
The source revealed: “Paris was great. She bid on many things, and Leo did too. Both her and Leo were so active during the entire auction. It was really nice to see.”
They also noted that Leonardo “was laughing and enjoying himself with his friends,” throughout the night.
Sadly, however, the Mirror reports that he actually lost out on two other auction lots, including a trip to one of the Nikki Beach resorts worldwide.
Sad times, Leo.
The awesome charity gala raised €5.1 million overall, with a mystery donor pledging a staggering €5 million. The charity offers heart care for impoverished children around the world, with heart surgeons donating their time to perform costly operations.
The money will be used to fund a private plane, which will fly doctors and nurses to remote areas to perform surgeries and screen children for heart disease.
BRAVO, EVERYONE. Awesome work for an awesome cause.
