Lewis Hamilton has insisted that he is stronger than ever before, despite only recently splitting from his girlfriend of seven years, Nicole Scherzinger.
Fully opening his heart for the first time since the break up, the Formula 1 champ has said that he will not let his heartache stop him from defending his championship title, which starts in Australia today.
The 30-year-old referenced the couple’s previous splits, explaining: “Of course, in the previous years it has been the case where it’s affected my life in general.
“Last year, I adopted, maybe the word is a mental attitude, that was impenetrable.
“But I feel that I still carry that kind of mentality from last year and whilst it’s not been easy, I feel stronger than ever.
“Having been in this position before, I don’t feel that it’s going to be a problem.”
Good to know, babes, you go to Oz and defend your bloomin’ honour.
Lewis has generally kept schtum over his and Pussycat Doll Nicole’s split, although he did previously highlight just how important his career is to him after describing his F1 victories as “a bandage” over his broken heart.
The globe-trotter pro also revealed that his jet-setting lifestyle has helped him keep away from his home, which is filled with memories of Scherzy and their seven long years together.
Lewis added that he was feeling optimistic about his chances at the championships, sharing: “It’s like once in a blue moon it’s all in a line but I still feel like I’ve got enough in place to do what I need to do and be the best I can be this year.”
That’s the spirit, Lew, with that kind of optimism you’re sure to do well – even if Nic isn’t waiting for you at the finish line this time around.
