Lily Allen Brands Band Aid ‘Smug Success Club’ After Rejecting Bob Geldof’s Request

The line-up is a who who’s of British pop talent, but there’s one person did NOT want to be associated with the new Band Aid single.

Lily Allen has admitted that she REJECTED Bob Geldof’s request to appear on the track because she reckons that, well, everyone’s just a bit blimmin’ smug.

Tell it like it is, yeah, Lil?!

The 29-year-old told The Mail On Sunday that she prefers to donate actual money to charity rather than be part of the ‘success club.’

She said: “It’s difficult to give an explanation why I didn’t do it without sounding like a complete c***.

“I prefer to do my charitable bit by donating actual money and not being lumped in with a bunch of people like that.”

She added: “It’s like the ‘success club’ and I’m not really in that club. I don’t think I’m above it all – I’m way below it. But there’s something a bit smug about it.”

Yikes, don’t think Bob’s going to be massively happy about this.

The new single, which is raising funds to help beat Ebola and features the likes of One Direction, Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran, has already faced a major backlash after being branded ‘patronising.’

Rapper Fuse ODG also turned down a part on the track, saying it wasn’t ‘in line with his beliefs’, while Damon Alban blasted it for giving a one-sided view of Africa.

Despite actually featuring on the single, Emeli Sande recently admitted that she thought some of the lyrics needed to be rewritten, and that she recorded some of her own edits…. which, didn’t make the final cut.

She wrote: “I apologise if the lyrics of the song have caused offence. I wish the changes had been kept but that is out of my control.

“The sole objective is to raise awareness and money to provide medical aid to those suffering the Ebola outbreak, which is being worsened and amplified by poverty.”

Despite the backlash, the single is currently sitting at number one and has become the fastest-selling single of 2014, with all proceeds going to Ebola support.

Sounds like those guys are doing something right!
