Ford Motor Co.’s Lincoln luxury brand will begin production next spring for the 2015 MKC, a premium small crossover aimed at the fastest-growing segment of the American car market. The vehicle will go on sale by summer.
The new front-wheel-drive model closely resembles the MKC concept Ford revealed in January at the Detroit auto show. Competitors include the Audi S3, BMW X1,Mercedes-Benz GLA and Range Rover Evoque.
Ford will use the MKC as a showcase for its optional new 2.3-liter, 275-hp 4-cylinder engine. The car’s standard powerplant will be 2.0-liter engine, which is rated at 240 hp. All-wheel drive will be optional. Active grille shutters help improve fuel efficiency at highway speeds.
The MKC is the second of four new models for the Lincoln brand due by 2016. The first of the series, the MKZ midsize luxury sedan, debuted last year as a 2013 model.
