Madonna has opened up about why she didn’t report being violently raped when she was 19-years-old.
The singer was raped at knifepoint after she moved to New York City from Michigan when she was younger, but admits she didn’t tell anyone because it was “too humiliating.”
Madge has previously spoken briefly about the incident, telling Harper’s Bazaar back in 2013 that she was: “raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back.”
However, speaking to American DJ Howard Stern, the 56-year-old revealed what happened during the traumatic attack.
She explained: “I was going to a dance class and the door was locked and I needed money for the payphone. [A man] gave it to me,” she said. “He was a very friendly guy. I trusted everybody.
“I was raped. The first year I lived in New York was crazy.”
The singer then explained why she didn’t report the crime, admitting: “You’ve already been violated. It’s just not worth it. It’s too much humiliation.”
Speaking about moving to the city as a teenager, Madonna added that she didn’t know anyone at all.
She explained: “First I was in shock, I didn’t know a soul.
“I was saying hi to people on the streets like a dork.”
Madonna also spoke to Howard Stern about her past romances, revealing that she once briefly dated the late rapper Tupac Shakur back in 1994.
The singer referred back to a specific David Letterman interview of the 90s, telling the host: “I was mad at David when I said the F-word a lot.
“I was in a weird mood that day. I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time and the thing is, he got me all riled up about life in general.
“So when I went on the show I was feeling very gangsta.”
