Flame-haired ‘Great British High Street’ apologist Mary Portas has revealed that it was her brother Lawrence who helped her welcome an ickle baby into the world three years ago, with wife Melanie Rickey.
And whilst it might be a bit of a headache finding the appropriate Christmas card, in a way it’s kind of cute, you know? Keeping it in the family and all that?
The Queen of Shops had previously said that wife Melanie had conceived through IVF with an anonymous sperm donor providing the necessary ‘ingredients’ for it all.
However, speaking to The Times Magazine this weekend, Mary told of how her brother seemed ‘honoured’ when they asked him to donate sperm so they could conceive a child.
The Channel 4 star said: “Lawrence was the first one there and he picked him (Horatio, the couple’s son) up and it was just very emotional. I said to him ‘thank you’ and he said ‘it’s my pleasure’, and we just held each other.”
STOP NOW PLEASE BECAUSE WE’RE ALREADY CRYING.
Mary and Melanie – who last year became one of the first couples in the country to convert their civil partnership into a marriage – welcomed baby Horatio into the world back in 2012.
And apparently, he looks JUST like the pair of them, thanks to Lawrence’s helpful intervention:
“When I look at Horatio, he is a complete mix of (Melanie) and me. Of course now I know that it could only ever have been Lawrence who was Horatio’s father.”
Ain’t that (unsual) but nonetheless sweet, eh kids?
