Matt Lauer and Annette Roque are reportedly nearing the end of their marriage and are in the process of finalizing the terms of their divorce settlement. However, things are not turning out the way the fired NBC anchor hoped, and he is said to be “furious” about the cost of ending his relationship.

Lauer and Roque, who have been married for 19 years, share three children together, sons Jack, 16, and Thijs, 11, and daughter Romy, 14. When the couple legally ends their union, the journalist’s bank account is expected to experience a substantial decrease.

“Matt is furious he is essentially handing over half of his net worth to Annette,” a source told Us weekly.

Insiders revealed Roque is expected to walk away from the marriage with a hefty payout. “He’s going to be forking out around $50 million in a settlement,” the source shared.

“She will receive the horse farm, their current residence and a one-time payment of $25 million. There will be no child or spousal support and they will split the costs for the kids,” the insider added.

Those close to Lauer revealed the 60-year-old could prolong the divorce process by requesting a lesser payout but explained he’s more concerned with moving on with his life. “He could fight for a better deal in court but that would only result in dragging this out longer and negative headlines.”

“He is ready to move on with his life and truly believes that a television comeback is possible,” the source noted.

News of the “imminent divorce” comes months after Lauer was fired from NBC. The network received a complaint accusing the “Today” show anchor of sexual harassment and terminated the longtime employee. On Nov. 17, 2017, Lauer released a statement apologizing for his actions but claimed some of the accusations made against him were false.

“Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed. I regret that my shame is now shared by the people I cherish dearly,” he said at the time.

“Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort. It is now my full-time job.”

Insiders revealed Lauer believes his divorce with Roque will give him the chance to start over “in both his personal and professional life.”
