WORD UP! She’s back.
Not happy with a spot on UK TV’s biggest show, Mel B is reportedly back in the studio and hoping for a pop comeback.
According to The Sun, the 39-year-old singer has been working with producer Anthony Preston – the man behind Britney Spears’ latest album Britney Jean in a bid to develop a ‘bold’ new sound.
A source told the paper: “She’s spent the past few weeks in the studio working on tracks and wants to make a big impact with a killer pop record for when ‘X Factor’ goes live.
“She knows Simon Cowell will feel forced to give her a performance slot on one of the Sunday shows.
“She wants to be out there in the music world once again and hopes it leads to a proper record deal.”
Mel’s last solo effort ‘For Once In My Life’ failed to even chart in the UK (although it did reach number 12 in Ukraine, pop trivia fans), so we don’t blame her for wanting another stab at chart dominance.
Despite selling over 80 million records worldwide, members of the Spice Girls have a recent history of failing to set the charts on fire with their new material…
Emma Bunton and Melanie C
The mini reunion between Baby and Sporty seemed to excite fans back in 2012 when they recorded duet ‘I Know Him So Well’ for Mel’s musical theatre album ‘Stages’. Unfortunately the song bombed, charting at 153, while Stages only mustered a number 50 placing.
Oh Geri. Everyone’s favourite red head tried to revive her former glory days last year by re-launching herself in Australia. Unfortunately the ‘Look At Me’ songstress failed to make an impact with track ‘Half of Me,’ selling just 393 copies in it’s first week of release.
Melanie C again (giving hope to them all)
It’s not all bad news! Last year Mel teamed up with X Factor winner Matt Cardle for duet ‘Loving You’. Thanks to a rather steamy video (and admittedly catchy tune) the two managed to chart at a respectable number 14 – the highest position of a Spice solo outing since 2006 – Emma Bunton’s Children in Need cover ‘Downtown’.
