Poor old Miley, it seems as though she can’t do anything right.
Miley Cyrus attempted to leave a positive lasting image at this year’s VMAs, just as we finally got the image of her from the 2013 ceremony cleansed from our minds.
But it didn’t exactly go to plan.
In a bid to make a stand on behalf of the 1.6million homeless youths across America, Miley took homeless Jesse Helt along to the ceremony as her date.
She even sent him on stage to collect her award for Video Of The Year, where he exposed who he really was and made a powerful speech, all while Miley could be seen blubbing in the background.
It was all just beautiful.
Despite Katy Perry’s less-than-impressed reaction in the audience.
However, rather than get the world talking about the issue of homelessness in the US as intended, Miley appears to have accidentally revealed Jesse Helt to be a known criminal that is wanted by the police for repeatedly violating his probation.
Arrested on charges for breaking and entering and ‘criminal mischief’, a warrant for his arrest was sent out when Jesse failed to report to his probation worker, as well as not completing his community service, using marijuana, failing to provide a urine sample and breaching his curfew.
Some cynics were also shocked to discover that he very much does have a home but it’s back in Oregon and he left his family in order to go to Los Angeles and become a model.
We have to admit that it’s not looking good, and Miley isn’t happy.
Taking to Twitter the 21-year-old popstar ranted: “People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included.
“I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it. Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?
“The media never fails to disappoint me. You’ve chosen to go after Jesse instead of covering the issue of youth homelessness.
“While they obsess over one homeless man’s legal issues let’s help the other 1.6 million.”
Very well said, Miley.
The Wrecking Ball singer also retweeted a selection of messages of support from her famous pals, including Kim Kardashian, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Cara Delevingne.
Miley sent the internet into a frenzy on Sunday night when she shared a snap of herself and Jesse prior to the awards, with everybody speculating whether the mystery man was a new boyfriend.
However, when Miley was named winner of the Video Of The Year award, for Wrecking Ball – what else?- Jesse accepted the moonman on her behalf and revealed his true identity.
Taking to the stage he said: “My name is Jesse and I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now.
“I know this because I am one of these people.
“Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight.”
Asking for fans to help make a difference by joining Miley’s campaign on her Facebook page, Jesse went on to rather poetically say: “A dream you dream alone is only a dream, but a dream you dream together is reality.”
Jesse might soon be dreaming that he never met Miley if his VMAs stint lands him in prison…
