Miley Cyrus Launches The ‘Happy Hippie Foundation’ To Help Homeless LGBT Teens

Miley Cyrus has officially launched her Happy Hippie Foundation, teaming with Facebook to present the ‘Backyard Sessions’, which will help raise funds and awareness for her new venture.

Miley’s Happy Hippie Foundation aims to raise awareness of issues affecting homeless young people, the LGBT youth community and other vulnerable populations.

Bravo, girl!

The 22-year-old has already been helped by the likes of Joan Jett, Ariana Grande, Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, and Melanie Safka, who have all joined her for the music sessions, which are exclusively posted to Facebook.

There is also an option at the bottom of the videos to donate to the foundaton.

Speaking about the project in a statement, she said: “Pointless judgment and its effects are unfortunately something that is way too common. All humans have valid feelings and rights! I want to use my voice as a megaphone to young people everywhere and encourage human evolution.

“No one should have to hide who they really are, no matter what his or her name, gender or status. That’s why Happy Hippies are here to say that every life is valuable!”

“I’m the one that can fix it. I think I’ve been able to identify with it just because I’ve never thought of myself as, ‘I’m a girl and so I can’t do this, or I can do this, or you’ve got to be a boy to do that’.

“I feel completely like I’m not tied to a gender or to an age. I feel like an infinite cosmic thing, and that’s what I want people to feel…Forty percent of homelessness is really focused on [the LGBT community], because, I think, of the lack of acceptance.”

This all comes after Miley Cyrus took a homeless man as her date to the MTV VMAs.

In the first video, Joan Jett joins Miley for a rendition of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts’ ‘Different’, from their 2013 album ‘Unvarnished’.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about taking part, Joan, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Miley herself last month, said: “I think what Miley’s doing is wonderful and important to help people find their authentic selves. I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Well done on launching such an amazing foundation, Miley, and fingers crossed it continues to grow into something even more awesome!
