The schamazing Scherzy has hinted that she has more in common with her musical theatre character than meets the eye.
She shot to fame as the super-sassy leader of the Pussycat Dolls and made a name for herself as the wackiest X Factor judge of all time, however, Nicole Scherzinger has unveiled a more serious side as she prepares for her new role in Cats the Musical.
Speaking exclusively to Yahoo Celebrity at the launch of Candy Crush Soda Saga, Nicole told us exactly what drew her to the role of feline outcast, Grizabella, and revealed how the character relates to her on a much more personal level.
Nic dished: “There is a darker side to her, and there are a lot of parallels between the character and me doing Cats…
“Things aren’t always what they seem – The other cats are very judgemental of Grizabella, they reject her, they are judging her.
“They don’t know that she is so much more than she looks, she once was the glamorous cat, the belle of the ball, and now she is a fallen star.”
Yikes, Nic may be hinting that there is more going on behind the scenes than we know, but we can say with absolute certainty that she is still very much the glam belle of the ball.
And we LOVE HER for it.
Nicole adds that she can relate to the sad character that she plays because there are a lot of ‘parallels’ between the musical’s story and her own life, adding: “You can relate to her, we all have dark times and dark days.
“There is so much depth to her that people don’t know, more than meets the eyes. Having to fight her way back with dignity to get acceptance and have forgiveness.
“There are so many different layers to Grizabella, and I have the perfect song to share that with.”
The 36-year-old is of course referencing the iconic song ‘Memory’, which has been performed by musical theatre legends as well as the likes of Susan Boyle.
So is Nicole anxious about performing such a famous song?
Well, apparently not because Nic is approaching the entire thing as an actor, not a singer.
“I’m blessed enough to work with the people who created this musical and I am going at it from a real actor’s perspective,” she reveals, “I’m almost treating ‘Memory’ as a monologue and all I can do is bring my own experiences and the story of my own life.
“When you focus on it from an acting point of view you’re not worried about what it sounds like because that’s not what it is about.
“It’s about what she is singing, that’s all I’m doing. I’m putting all the work in and take it very seriously.”
Looks as though Scherzy is embracing her new role as a ‘serious musical theatre actress’ like an absolute pro and we can’t ruddy wait to see her in London’s West End.
And despite her busy schedule, Nicole knows exactly how she is going to spend her downtime when she is chilling out backstage: “I’m a newcomer to Candy Crush, I just started but I love it.
“I am addicted, the first game I started I was addicted. It’s cool, it’s such a fun game, it’s so simple.”
But whatever you do, make sure that you don’t try and speak to Nicole about anything important while she’s playing on the addictive app, with the superstar joking: “I play it all the time in the car and whenever people are speaking to me and I’m supposed to be listening…”
“I’m sure they’re saying important things but I’m too distracted if I’m playing the game.”
Duly noted, Nicole, duly noted.
