One Direction Are The ‘Biggest Band In The World’, And Simon Cowell Is THRILLED

We all kinda knew it anyways but now it is official; One Direction are the biggest British artist in the world.

AGAIN.

Our fave fivesome had already won the prestigious title for the last two years, but 2014 saw the boys fight off stiff competition from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith to nab the top spot for a third year.

Good going, guys – fancy posting a naked selfie to celebrate? No? Worth a try.

An appreciative One Direction obviously thanked their fans for their staggering success, saying in a statement: “We just want to thank all our amazing fans everywhere.

“Every time we visit a new country we feel instantly accepted and it’s mind-blowing to think the five of us have been able to connect with so many people.”

It’s because you’re frickin amazing, guys, no biggie.

The band’s 2010 X Factor mentor, Simon Cowell, was even more smug than his already-very-smug self, and gushed to The Sun: “I am absolutely delighted and immensely proud that One Direction were the biggest UK act in the world in 2014.

“To accomplish this for the third year in a row is a fantastic achievement – and especially pleasing as this latest album also highlighted the band’s skills as songwriters.”

Yeah, he acts modest now but we can already already see the text that he sent to Louis Walsh:

‘Lolz u said no 2 Harry’s X Factor audition, look at them now’.

The success of the gorgeous boys is based on figures from the International Federation of the Phonographic industry, whose Global Recording Artist Chart shows that they outsold all other British acts, yet again.

See? There’s a chart and everything – this is seriously official business.

The release of the band’s imaginatively named fourth album ‘FOUR’ is partly to thank for their impressive achievement, with it hitting number one in iTunes in a whopping 85 countries, earning the boys a Guinness World Records for becoming the first ever band to debut at number one in the Billboard chart with each of their first four albums.

Not too shabby, eh?

Keep doing what you’re doing, 1D, we are all loving you more than ever before.
