One Direction’s Niall Horan Reveals His Favourite Irish Songs Ahead Of St. Patrick’s Day

Niall Horan is pretty much one of the most famous Irish people on the planet right now, what with him being one fifth of the most famous boyband in the world AND the fact that he’s always bleating on about his glorious emerald island roots.

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner (Tuesday 17th March, duh), we were kind of hoping that we’d be able to spend some time with the blonde-haired babe to talk about all things Ireland, but unfortunately for us he is kinda in the middle of a mahoosive world tour with the rest of the One Direction lads.

Dang it.

Thankfully, the 21-year-old was kind enough to find the time to talk us through his all time fave Irish songs, meaning that we can now make a rather snazzy iTunes playlist and listen to it whilst imagining that he is there with us.

Sadly actual gem ‘Act My Age’ didn’t make Niall’s shortlist, but we think you will agree that these songs are pretty awesome regardless:

U2 – I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For/ With Or Without You

Niall says: “You can’t beat a bit of Bono… Total legend!

Hozier – Take Me To Church

Niall says: “Definitely one of the best songs of the year, his voice is so soulful, and what a Grammy’s performance.”

Damien Rice – I Don’t Want To Change You

Niall says: “Amazing singer, songwriter and producer!”

James Vincent McMorrow – Higher Love

Niall says: “I love this stripped down version, just pianos and vocals. So powerful.”

Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars/ Run/ Open Your Eyes

Niall says: “One of my favourite bands and a song that really captures a moment. We’re so fortunate that Gary Lightbody has been involved in our journey and written for us.”

That’s Something Great on the Midnight Memories album, FYI.

The Script – Superheroes/ Hall Of Fame

Niall says: “Pop rock doesn’t get better than this, catchy as hell.”

Thin Lizzy – The Boys Are Back In Town

Niall says: “Whan an anthem, twin guitar leads. BOOM!”

Kodaline – Honest/ All I Want/ High Hopes

Niall says: “Always good to listen to when I’m chilling out and being all reflective.”

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl

Niall says: “Such a sing-a-long tuuuuuuuuuune!!!!!!!”

The Pogues – Fairytale Of New York/ Love You Til The End

Niall says: “LOVE this song.”

The Cranberries – Zombie

Niall says: “Absolute classic tune.”

The Undertones – Teenage Kicks/ My Perfect Cousin

Niall says: “I always loved how they sang about ordinary life and ordinary people.”

Boom Town Rats – I Don’t Like Mondays

Niall says: “Honoured to have met Bob Geldof, this song is one of his best known and one of my favourites.”

Well, what are you waiting for? Get on iTunes and download all of those tracks PRONTO – We are having a Niall party!
