Prince Philip and Prince Charles took a long walk decades ago.
At that time, the heir to the throne was just a teenager. But their body language already revealed so much about their relationship.
In the unearthed photo, Prince Philip is walking right beside Prince Charles. The Duke of Edinburgh’s hands are placed inside his pockets, and he is also staring into the horizon.
The dad of four has a serious look on his face that made him look upset. Prince Charles, on the other hand, is looking at the floor. His head is bowed, and he has a scared or shy look on his face.
Even though his hands are not placed inside his pants pocket, one of his fists is clenched. The heir to the throne didn’t grow up to be close to his dad. In fact, the two didn’t also see eye to eye because of their very different personalities.
Prince Charles was reportedly a softy, while Prince Philip was known for being rude and sarcastic. The two oftentimes found themselves disagreeing on a lot of things.
And on one occasion, the two male royals’ relationship became even more distant after Prince Philip decided to send his son to Gordonstoun. While speaking with Express, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said that Prince Charles struggled a lot while he was at the boarding school.
“In Jonathan Dimbleby’s authorized biography of Charles, the Duke is quoted as writing ‘Children may be indulged at home, but school is expected to be a spartan and disciplined experience in the process of developing into self-controlled, considerate and independent adults.’ This was a bad mistake,” he said.
The royal commentator went on to say that Queen Elizabeth gave her husband the power to decide when it came to their children’s education. After all, Her Majesty was very busy with her role as the head of the monarchy and the Commonwealth.
“The Queen deferred to the duke in the matter of their children’s education as Prince Philip’s early years as Consort were not easy, especially for someone with his dynamic personality,” he said.
