Princess Diana reportedly once made a distress call during a fundraising dinner in New York.

According to one of Princess Diana’s former top aides, they were in a fundraising dinner in the Big Apple when the Princess of Wales called their attention discreetly because the people were trying to take photos of her.

“Once, at a fundraising dinner in New York, I attempted a futile feat as hordes of diners exercised their right to get their full money’s worth by approaching the top table where Diana sat, cameras as the ready,” Patrick Jephson recalled.

“As my boss disappeared behind a blue blizzard of flash-bulbs, she cast an urgently reproachful eye at her support team seated a few yards away. We gallantly responded to her distress call, interposing ourselves between the Princess and the excited snappers, tugging elbows and politely pleading for a ceasefire,” he added.

Jephson admitted that his efforts were in vain. They soon realized that they couldn’t deny those big cheque donors their souvenir photos.

“Our antics obviously risked spoiling the whole happy mood so we slunk back to our table, certain that any displeasure that came our way later would be better than creating a bad news story,” he shared.

Jephson also recalled an incident when Princess Diana attended Wimbledon privately and how she accepted the fact that her presence would gain attention. So she prepared herself for a prolonged photo shoot.

Jephson’s statement came after Meghan Markle was slammed by netizens for attending Wimbledon and telling the people to refrain from taking photos of her because she was there in a “private capacity.”

In addition, Markle made two major and awkward blunders on the same Wimbledon appearance. First, she wore jeans when the guests on the Royal Box are required to wear formal attire. Second, she failed to watch Andy Murra’s game which many considered a massive faux pas.

“Andy Murray was on Court 1 afterwards and it was a massive faux pas not to watch a Brit when she is signed up to the Royal family,” a source said. “It was a nightmare, she was a nightmare.”

Markle made another appearance at Wimbledon on Saturday with Kate Middleton and Pippa Middleton. The three ladies watched the Ladies’ Single Final where Markle’s close friends Serena William played but lost the championship to Simona Halep.
